Heathrow is the U.K's largest airport and is the busiest international airport in the world. It is also the world's second busiest cargo port, consisting of two main runways plus a cross wind runway. However BAA has now been granted permission to build a third runway.

Over 90 different airlines use Heathrow serving around 170 destinations around the world. On a busy day at least 213,000 passengers pass through the airport and an average of 1,250 flights operate from Heathrow daily.

Heathrow handles more international passengers than any other airport in the world. Its busiest routes are to New York, Amsterdam, Paris and Dublin.

Facilities for all terminals are very good with shops, restaurants and bars. Over recent years an average of £1 million has been invested every day in facilities and customer service developments. Further expansion is by way of its new Terminal 5 which opened last year.

Heathrow Airport currently deals with over 63 million passengers a year and is operated by its owner BAA. Situated 15 miles to the west of central London it has five terminals. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are located next to each other at the centre of Heathrow, whilst Terminal 4 is located to the south of the airport and has a separate entrance, as does Terminal 5 the new base for Brotish Airways.
