The cost of flying is tumbling as demand for air travel falls further

Air fares are falling to unprecedented levels as the demand for flights continues to fall.

Holidaymakers and business travellers alike are benefiting from low cost air travel whether it is economy, first or business class. Fares to mot destinations especially long haul are cheaper than ever.

This week return fares to New York fell to just £225 and that includes all charges and taxes!! This summer travellers could also take advantage of flights to Sydney Australia falling to just £600 down from £800 this time last year.

Most airlines are having to slash their prices, Emirates have reduced return flights to Dubai to only £200 and Virgin Atlantic can offer a premium economy flight to Hong Kong for just 3699. If you are looking to chance your luck in Las Vegas a number of airlines can offer flights at just under £300.

But short trips to Europe are also suffering with Lufthansa offering one way fares to eight European destinations for just £49. Ryanair renowned for its value flights is offering one million one way flights for £5 but this does exclude charges and taxes.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) which represents 230 airlines worldwide reported a decline in air travel and passenger numbers of 8.4% in January compared with the same month last year. Admittedly cuts in services accounted for much of this but excluding this demand still shows a drop of 5.3%.

“There is concern within the industry” said a spokesman for easyJet who have recently offered 25% discounts off their fares. Giovanni Bisignani the CEO of IATA said “Alarm bells are ringing, aide from the Middle East carriers, passengers demand is falling in all regions. The industry is in a global crisis and we have not seen the bottom.”
