High speed rail link would help passengers

The Guild of Travel Management have released some findings that suggest Britain’s business travellers have very clear ideas on what they feel would really make their life easier when it comes to travelling to meetings around the globe. The travellers where asked about their attitude to rail , road and air travel and what they consider were the most important areas for improvement. Whilst many agreed that expanding UK’s airports would help with congestion, the majority of those questioned said that they would put their priorities firmly in the area of investing more into the high speed rail network. Almost 70% agreed that an improved high speed rail network should link to the major airports such as Heathrow and shift travellers on short haul services on to rail and that would ease the long haul capacity. The GTMC manifesto has been drawn up to outline what travellers value most and consider being the best way of improving their journeys ahead of the General Election. Amongst the findings were that more than 60% of the 1,250 people questioned said that airport parking charges were a big issue. Airport operators should also include the widespread provision of Wi-Fi access and power sockets as well as an increase in working space. Anne Godfrey, chief executive of the GTMC said that the organisation had previously been a supporter of a third runway at Heathrow but in the light of results from the survey it had altered its priorities towards a much improved rail network.
