Forecasters warn Britain faces yet more heavy snow and Arctic temperatures.

More biting cold Arctic weather is set to hit the UK as the country’s shoppers and families prepare for Christmas. Heavy snow will be driven by strong icy winds. Temperatures could drop as low as -15°C.

As much as eight inches of snow is expected to fall on Britain. Arctic winds are forecast to hit gusts of 50mph. This will lead to dangerous driving conditions and significant snow drifts. Railway lines and roads could be blocked. Villages and snows could become inaccessible.

The UK’s next tranche of icy weather is set to arrive on Thursday. Severe winter conditions are expected continue until the New Year, at the earliest. Britain has enjoyed relatively balmy conditions in recent days, following last week’s heavy snow and ice.

Shopping experts say Britain’s shoppers took advantage of the shot break in severe weather to shop for Christmas presents. Over just 48 hours, UK consumers managed to spend around £2.5 billion on their holiday shopping. Several previous waves of serious weather frustrated shoppers’ previous attempts to get to UK high streets.

Meteorologists, however, warn that UK shoppers will probably need to use the internet to do their Christmas shopping in coming days. A low of -5°C is expected but heavy winds will mean it feels far colder.
